The Multi Grit Tester\u00a0508 Select – incl. pressure vessel –\u00a0is an electro-pneumatically controlled multi-blow test instrument\u00a0of high precision, and its special\u00a0feature is the good repeatability and comparability of\u00a0the test results obtained.<\/p>\n

The Multi Grit Tester 508 is used to assess the ability of single and multiple layers of paints and similar coating materials to stand up to the impacts caused by small bodies of low mass hitting the specimen at high speed as experienced on road and rail vehicles and other equipment used in the transport field.\u00a0The clear arranged menu navigation via the touch\u00a0panel has password-protected levels, which protect\u00a0against unauthorized access (such as program\u00a0changes).\u00a0With the modular Multi Grit Tester 508 Select, the user only needs one basic unit, which can be converted with little effort for bombardment tests “according to VDA” or “according to SAE”.<\/p>\n

The specimen is subjected to\u00a0impacts by sharp-edged steel shot accelerated by\u00a0compressed air. An air accumulator in the system\u00a0eliminates effects of momentary pressure variations in\u00a0the external compressed air supply. The shot is\u00a0entered automatically using an adjustable vibratory\u00a0feed.<\/p>\n

Purpose and Application:<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0Multi Grit Tester 508 Select inlc. VDA-Module\u00a0is a stone\u00a0hammer blow testing instrument that at first was\u00a0developed in co-operation with the “Verband der\u00a0Automobilindustrie (VDA)” (Association of the\u00a0Automotive Industry) but now also meets the\u00a0specifications of national and international standards.\u00a0The\u00a0Multi Grit Tester 508 Select incl. VDA-Module\u00a0is used to assess\u00a0the ability of single and multiple layers of paints and\u00a0similar coating materials to stand up to the impacts\u00a0caused by small bodies of low mass hitting the\u00a0specimen at high speed as experienced on road and\u00a0rai l vehicles and other equipment used in the transport\u00a0field.<\/p>\n

Principle of the Test:<\/strong>\u00a0A defined number of impact bodies of specified shape,\u00a0material and surface quality is made to impinge for a\u00a0given period of time and with a defined energy at a\u00a0determinate\u00a0angle (54\u00b0 in accordance with DIN\/ISO) of\u00a0impact onto the specimen.<\/p>\n

The bombardment of the test panels\u00a0is carried out with determinate grit (according\u00a0to ASTM\u00a0D 3170) which is accelerated by compressed\u00a0air.\u00a0Dependent of the specifications of further standards\u00a0(mostly of car manufacturers) other shot materials can\u00a0be used, too.\u00a0The shot is entered automatically using an adjustable\u00a0vibratory feed.\u00a0On a multifunctional display the working pressure, the\u00a0duration of the test, the setting of the vibratory feed\u00a0and the number of tests conducted (total \/ temporary)\u00a0can be read off alternatively.\u00a0An air accumulator in the system eliminates effects of\u00a0momentary pressure variations in the external\u00a0compressed air supply.<\/p>\n

The specimen fixing device of the\u00a0Multi Grit Tester 508 Select inlc. SAE-Module\u00a0is provided with an adjustable\u00a0impact angle.\u00a0The adjusting unit for the impact angle allows to adjust\u00a0the orientation of the test panel relative to the direction\u00a0of impact in the range from 30\u00b0 to 90\u00b0 in steps of 15\u00b0.\u00a0Contrary to the VDA version, the test panel in the\u00a0Multi Grit Tester 508 Select incl. SAE-Module\u00a0is located completely\u00a0within the testing room during the whole bombardment\u00a0procedure.Due to numerous technical differences between both\u00a0versions (conditional on the standards), a test in\u00a0accordance with VDA using the SAE version, is not\u00a0intended and thus technically excluded.<\/p>\n
